RICHARD JORDAN SMOOT: I am a composer, photographer and media artist, and I run an independent studio dedicated to creating original work, disseminating this work and teaching. Here in The Jagged Rooms, I would like to talk about my art-making and background more informally.... and more freely. This space is all about my personal practice and journey. I accept the limitations of this type of venue and embrace the freedom and possibilities that exist working within a context where one has only the constraints imposed by the medium. Accordingly, one also enjoys the possibilities working this way as well. One great freedom we have with the Internet is that we can change things instantly. Something may be on a website one moment and gone the next. Composers and Artists find themselves operating in a realm where the role of the critic has been virtually eliminated and potentially, with no critical censorship, quality can be an issue. This places greater responsibility upon the artist to review, clarify, revise and make demands upon oneself. NOTE: I am starting this page on January 5, 2010 and I will be adding more as time passes.
