Commissions:

Composer Richard Jordan Smoot is available for commissioning by orchestras, ensembles and individuals. His rates conform to Meet The Composer guidelines, but special arrangements can be made. Smoot has created new works for many venues including the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, OH, the Toledo Symphony and artists of world renown like Richard Stoltzman. Commissioning a new work can be an exciting collaboration, and Smoot has worked actively and inclusively with commissioning groups and individuals, as well as performers. Indeed, individuals who may have never considered the possibility, can afford to create a new work as a gift or part of a personal legacy.

Recently, Richard Jordan Smoot completed a commission for Carpe Diem String Quartet entitled Seize The Day. This new string quartet, funded by the Johnstone Fund for New Music, was premiered on March 26 & 28, 2010.

Seize The Day was created at the request of Carpe Diem and particularly,Charles Wetherbee. This Grammy-nominated quartet is known for its championing of new music and highly entertaining, virtuosic performances. Seize The Day was created by Richard Jordan Smoot as a philisophical statement by the composer as well as a tribute to Carpe Diem String Quartet.
