Thanks for visiting Sound Endeavors. To help you understand what Sound Endeavors is all about, I am including some general information below using a Question&Answer format.

1. What is Sound Endeavors and this site all about?

Sound Endeavors is a professional music studio located in Columbus, Ohio dedicated to music production and instruction. This studio is owned and operated by yours truly, Dr. Richard Jordan Smoot. The Sound Endeavors website can best be described as an open-ended website for the presentation, sale and distribution of my work.

2. Who are you?

I am a professional composer by training who has been actively working with visual media, including photography and video in recent years. My interest in mediums other than those which are inherently musical is usually related to my musical thinking nonetheless. I have been composing music and creating things of a literary nature since I was a child. After spending a number of years in and around academia (I was an Associate Professor of Music in a past incarnation), as well as in the music and art scene, I have joined the multitudinous ranks of artists interested in new ways of communicating more directly with an audience without the so-called "middle-man" or the politicians of art regulating what is presented; hence my interest in the Internet as a venue. Also, I have been making photographs for twenty years. To experience more of my work please visit the Preview area of The Jagged Rooms and consider becoming a Patron.

3. How many other people are involved with this website?

This site is based upon my concept, but I have had the pleasure of working with a professional web designer who has been a significant part of bringing this site into being. He is a musician as well and understands my concerns.

4. What can we expect to find here?

Herein you will find general information about my studio offerings and you will be able to make online purchases at the Sound Endeavors Store. This includes published editions of my scores and CDs. In the Showcase area you will often find samples of my work and work by my more advanced students as well as a few guest artists now and then.

5. How do we obtain the work encountered here?

By clicking on the category of interest on the main page you will be taken to areas where you can buy music, including CDs and published scores Currently, I am working very actively to make scores, CDs and imagery available at the Sound Endeavors Store. Recently I completed a new symphonic work for the Moravian Philharmonic which will be released on an all-Smoot compact disc and be available here at Sound Endeavors as well as elsewhere. Remember that these commercial efforts have just begun, so please be patient and check back regularly for changes to the site.
