New string quartet in progress for Carped Diem String Quartet
|
|
I am currently creating a new string quartet for Carpe Diem String Quartet. The work is based upon Persian materials and will be premiered at the forthcoming A Persian Musical Feast in May, 2012. Stay tuned!

Seize The Day for string quartet was premiered!
|
Seize The Day was premiered on March 26 and 28......two performances and two standing ovations. The quartet played the hell out of the 3 movement, 25 minute work. And we filled the hall both days. I couldn't be more pleased by a live performance.

Progress Report
|
Currently, I am writing a new string quartet to be premiered in Columbus, Ohio on March 26&28, 2010. Meanwhile, the recording to feature Richard Stoltzman's performance of my Quartet for Clarinet, Violin, Cello and Piano is still in progress. This CD will also include the new string quartet and probably my song cycle, Street Songs, to be recorded by Sarah Smoot, mezzo-soprano. More to come.

We are really rolling!
|
Mister Greg the Maestro of the Web has implemented some long awaited new features...namely audio and video playback. This new capability will enable me to post this type of media as quickly and flexibly as I can post new imagery. Check out the Theater and go to my pro site, Sound Endeavors, to visit the Showcase for audio and the Publications area for audio as well. Very exciting!!

Site Info
|
Just a heads up for visitors regarding what to expect from this site: Currently I am posting imagery and items to the Loft (see bottom of page link on most pages). There is much to do on the Music, Writings and Video front. I am happy to admit that in the last 24 hours some serious design developments have occurred. Very good news, indeed. Please be patient and keep checking back.
Thanks -- RJS

Here is the latest on my creative work front: the CD project is still in the works with the work for Richard Stoltzman at the post-production stage, and I am slowly edging forth with a probable new string quartet for Carpe Diem String Quartet. Meanwhile there are some contractual matters to deal with, and more studio tuning to do. We shall get there.
Photography is going well with a new couple that I have just worked with and much imagery from that session to share.
As time permits I work on Faust, J.D. and other projects. More to come.

On the photo front: A lot of new imagery. Some interesting new models on the horizon...including possible couples. And I continue to work with my favorite models, like D & L.
On the music front: The studio is rolling along. A new string quartet is in the works to be added to the venue for my next compact disc. Also, songs....lots of songs.
But what about Faust, J.D. my ongoing "multimedia opera" and a project that has simmered since the early nineties? Well, I continue to feed this monster. I won't give up. Weird is the word that best describes its current state...sensual too. An exploration of soul selling, body selling....but most importantly, an exploration of the human condition and the possibilities of the human spirit. Of course, body freedom and love. Always...more to come.

THE LOFT IS READY
|
The Loft is now functional and serves as a work-in-progress space. I plan to keep it alive with up-to-date, work-related things and ideas....you know, ranting and raving about the loss of soul in America, etc.

The site continues to really come alive. Our imagery sections are pretty much done and I am rotating exhibits in and out of the free Imagery Preview area routinely right now. This is a great opportunity to see a good sampling of my work. Check it out.

Current Updates is now the place to get the latest news about this website!
We have been undergoing a large "redesign." Although the look of the site will not change radically, the functionality already has. Indeed, with our new functionality I will be able to post my music, photography, video and writings very fast! And we are very close to the end of this renewal process. I am backlogged with a large amount of work, especially photography and music.
So, visitors, please be a little more patient and check back for the new Jagged Rooms.

The new Smoot orchestral CD is out and getting pretty good distribution. Reviews are slow in coming, but a couple of classical journals are expected to review it. Apparently, it is receiving airplay around the country. I am about to reconfigure the two studio spaces I work in and I am preparing to do an audio project and probably some DVD projects. I am slowly coming up to speed with some new hardware and software, and look forward to being able to offer professional services involving Final Cut Studio.
On the imagery front: One of my favorite female models, E., is getting married and will no longer be available. Nonetheless, I have a large amount of work from our sessions together to review and present. Meanwhile, I have worked with a new female model, JH, this past month and she is very good. As usual, her work will be posted in the Patron's area. I was able to try out a new set of macro lenses with her. D&L continue to be a dramatic and creative photographic presence in my artistic world, and there is a lot of work to review involving this dynamic couple. Both D and L model solo as well on a regular basis, which translates as more work to present.

I haven't made an entry here for some time, but a lot of work has been completed recently. Also, the new mostly orchestral Smoot CD is out. I have been working with great models, S, SC, the couple D & L, alone and together, and my newest female model, E. The results have been quite stunning. I have posted three new exhibits this week and more are coming, maybe even a few that are more sensual than usual. These will only be available in the Patron's Area, of course.

I am working on several projects simultaneously at present -- the forthcoming compact disc of primarily orchestral music, editing of my Suite for Prague trio for this same CD, Faust, J.D., and photography, including the D & L Project. My web designer and I continue to streamline and enhance the website as well. Meanwhile my apprentice is assisting with the process of developing our subscriber base...all of this amid the usual teaching, composing, etc.

The recording portion of the Moravian Philharmonic project is completed and I have been to Europe for the recording sessions and the concert of my six orchestral works. Fantastic experience. All went well and I have never had such a great reception, musically and otherwise. The recording is due to be released by June of next year. It will be available on this site and elsewhere. I will keep everyone up to date.--Richard Jordan Smoot

The new Hauntings CD has received two strong reviews--one by records International and a great review in Fanfare Magazine. Meanwhile, I have just signed a new contract with MMC to record a new work with clarinetist, Richard Stoltzman, The work will be a Tashi-style quartet and we will travel to Boston to record in early September. The recording is due out within a year from the sessions. But wait, there's more: I have just been commissioned to create a new chamber orchestra work for the Minnesota Sinfonia. It will be premiered in late March, 2007.
On the imagery front: I have had some great sessions within the last few months, including a solo one with CA, a striking and athletic new female model, and a duo session with CA and L. There is a lot of work to edit and present.
